CURRICULUM:
Listed below is a brief
description of the curriculum for each grade.
Pre-School:
Students will meet twice a month. They will learn
about the Jewish holidays,
Israel,
and biblical characters. Stories,
crafts, and music are included
in the curriculum.
1st Grade:
Students will study the symbols and themes for
Jewish
holidays. They will participate in mock celebrations. The blessings
for
the candles, wine, and bread will be taught. Other areas of study
include Bible stories, Mitzvot,
the Synagogue, and Israel.
2nd Grade:

their stories relate to modern life will be explored and discussed. Other areas
of study include Israel, Tzedakah, and Hebrew letter recognition.
Grades 3 through 7:
Students will use the CHAI: Learning for Jewish Life – Jewish Family
Education curriculum. These programs are designed to provide an engaging
and enriching family experience that will enable parents to strengthen the
Jewish identity of their families while becoming Jewish teachers and role models
for their children.

The
programs in the curriculum fall into four categories: holiday-based programs;
g’milut chasadim programs; Reform Judaism programs; and Curriculum Core
family education programs.
Holiday-based programs (Volume 1):
Each of these five programs focuses on a different holiday. They vary in format
and age group.
G’milut chasadim
programs (Volume 2):
These three programs are designed to be conducted prior to a family g’milut
chasadim activity.
Reform Judaism programs (Volume 2):
This is a three-program
series designed to teach families about the history and principles of Reform
Judaism. |

Curriculum Core family
education programs (Volume 2):
These programs represent the
family education component of the CHAI grade-level Curriculum Core. The
family education lessons are built around the materials and ideas of the
Curriculum Core.
The CHAI learning sessions utilize the principles of Understanding by
Design, an advanced approach to curriculum design. The purpose of this approach
is to ensure that learning activities are developed with a particular end in
mind, and that each lesson is evaluated according to its success in
communication an “enduring understanding”.

Music
Kindergarten through fourth grade
students meet weekly with the Cantor for music class.

Trope Lessons
Students in grades six and seven study Trope with the
Cantor. |
